Sergey Guzev: "Not going to stop — just to gain!"

On June 16th at the tournament WWFC 11 world champion in middleweight Ukrainian Sergey Guzev (19-3) conquered the overcrowded tribunes of the Kiev Sports Palace two times. For a start it was hot, hard 25-minute confrontation with a former UFC fighter from Brazil Wagner Silva that Sergei to the great joy concluded in his favor with a victory on points. And immediately after his hand was raised by the referee, still not catching his breath and not moving away from the heat of the fight, gave a touching speech and dedicated the triumphal performance to his son.

Guzev knew it would be difficult, because when all was safely over, admitted that he asked the management of WWFC to pick up more difficult  opponent for him. The more valuable was the victory, although the champion does not consider that the fight was perfect: "I'm happy with the result, not really with the way I conducted the fight. There are errors and omissions in technique, so, there is some work to do".

Sergey knew that the son was watching the fight live. That's why the motivation was beyond the limits. And, as it turned out, not only during the match: "I immediately, long before the fight decided that he would dedicate the victory to the son, and it helped me a lot and during the fight, and in preparation when I wanted to leave everything and relax (smiles)".

In the first round of the highly experienced Ukrainian managed to send the rival to knockdown, but it did not work to end the fight at that moment: the Brazilian survived and managed to continue the fight. Commenting on one of the most memorable episodes of the fight, Guzev explained, due to which his opponent managed to survive: "In the first place I should admit his good defense on the cover and the ability to recover. And when I saw that he was almost recovered, then I decided to save my strength".

A bad start didn't break Silva, and in the second five minutes he tried to return the favor to the champion. The Brazilian managed to transfer Sergei to the cover and to occupy a dominant position, forcing to think only about the defense. However, he failed to get closer to the pre-term victory, as the Ukrainian did in the first round. "Everything was under control!" - with a smile assured Guzev.

After this confrontation came to a relatively quiet channel and noone of the fighter was on the verge of crossing over which there is a risk not to wait for the final bell. At the same time, for both it was the first 5-round fight and a 25th-minute distance in a professional career. So one had to think not only about the danger from the rival, but gently distribute the forces on the distance of the fight.

"Of course, I knew that I you need to save my strength. Tried not to fight to save energy. Because unfortunately the reserve was absent, – says Sergey. And adds that even thought about the possible verdict not in his favor when the fight was finally over. I just didn't have the energy. At that moment there were no thoughts, I just stood and waited for the result."

Guzev believes that in addition to endless motivation, the main components of success in the fight against one of the strongest opponents in his career became a good training and the favor of the Lord. And what will be his next contender -  stronger than Silva or, alternatively, less sophisticated, to be able to take a breath, he prefers not to think, leaving it at the mercy of a matchmakers from WWFC: "In fact, I  do not choose rivals myself - they are picked by the organization. So, I will work with anybody they offer!"

Seems that Sergey gets more involved and gains with each new bout. Everything points to the fact that now is the peak of his career. The champion is difficult to confirm or reject this, but hints that is not going to stop at this height:  "I don't know about peak of the career – I think the time will show. But  it is always possible to gain that I'm going to do in the future."

Traditionally having had rest and gained strength with the family, already two weeks after the hardest fight Guzev went back to the gym and resumed training, including in preparation for a new performance. There is every reason to believe that it is around the corner and will be held before the end of this year.

Anyway, Sergey is tuned for this. And taking this opportunity speaks to his  numerous fans: "I would like to thank you for your support. It's very nice to see how people experience and support, it also makes continue to train and win!"
